The Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, situated at Level IV of the college building with the Mortuary located at the hospital building, has adequate space for storing the bodies and is well-equipped with modern facilities for conducting Medico-Legal Post Mortem Examinations. The department indulges in teaching, training, and practicing the latest knowledge of forensic medicine, jurisprudence, and toxicology. This includes up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws, rules, acts, duties, and ethics related to modern medical practice.

Academic Activities
- The department is fully furnished and well-equipped for imparting quality education to U.G. students according to the latest NMC CBME curriculum, including skill-based teaching.
- The department undertakes various research and academic activities and has a number of nationally acclaimed books and research articles to its name.
- We impart the latest and practice-based teaching to medical students through lectures, practicals, and demonstration classes via different audio-visual aids (i.e., LCD, OHP, blackboard, digital board, and field visits).
- Regular tutorials, practicals, and demonstrations are held, where students' learning is assessed, ensuring their active participation for day-to-day assessment records.
- Group discussions, role-playing (as in a court of law), crime scene inspection, etc.
- Medico-legal demo case examination, documentation, reporting, and interpretation of opinions, such as in the case of sexual assault victims & assailants, identification of age, sex, autopsy report, viscera preservation, reporting, death, fitness, sickness, drunkenness, etc. certification.
- Field visit – Visit to the mortuary facility for a practical demonstration of post mortem autopsy.
- Other services and training are provided to postgraduate trainees and medical officers.
- Faculty members of the department provide knowledge through workshops and seminars to medical practitioners about the latest updates in the medico-legal framework.
Services:
- The department also actively participates as an expert as part of the medical board for conducting Medico-Legal Post Mortem Examinations by the Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana.
- The faculties of the department are on a daily duty roster and participate in the audit of MLRs to improve the quality of documentation of Medico-Legal Reports.
- Interns are posted compulsorily during their rotatory internship for 07 days in the department.
- Elective training of MBBS students after Part 1 of the Final Prof. examination.
- Besides the above, the department conducts teaching classes for the B.Sc. Nursing students at DMC&H College of Nursing, Ludhiana for the newly included Forensic Nursing curriculum in their 5th semester.

- Museum of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology having wax models, demo poisons, weapons, and specimens.
- Fully equipped Mortuary – including 1 autopsy room having 2 autopsy tables, 1 cold storage room with deep freezers.
- Departmental Library: Housing a number of the latest books, bare acts, and journals. This space is frequently used for seminars by U.G. students and interns.
