DMCH Molecular genetics laboratory is the state of art laboratory in the Punjab. It was established with the aim of providing the genetics tests to the patients with the latest technology at affordable cost.

The Laboratory continues to increase the list of genetic tests available to the patients and provides genetic consultation, focuses on the physician-patient relationship and the potential roles of the primary care provider in this dynamic field.

The Laboratory is led by a team of competent Doctors and Biotechnologists experienced in the field of genetic testing.

Department of Molecular diagnostics was started in 2018 by Dr. G.S.Wander,Vice Principal DMCH Chairman R &D). Dr. Navjot Bajwa (Professor Biochemistry) is heading the department since then. She is trained in Molecular Diagnostics and a certified Genetic Counsellor . Dr.Barjinderjit K.Dhillon joined as (Senior Biotechnologist) specialist in Molecular & Genomics Diagnostics (Thalassemia & Next Generation Sequencing - NGS). Dr. Renu Moti Pandita (Biotechnologist) is looking after Molecular Diagnostics (Pharmacogenomics & HPV testing). Dr. Mohit Sharma (Associate Biotechnologist) is taking care of Cytogenetics section (Karyotyping & Fluroscent in situ Hybridisation – FISH). Dr. Sumit Sharma (Biotechnologist) is looking after many genetics test + NGS.Dr. Nandita Maini Jindal (M.D.Biochemistry) is a part of NGS team.

BENEFITS OF GENETIC TESTING

Clarity and Peace of Mind

Genetic testing can relieve uncertainty by confirming or ruling out suspected conditions. It empowers individuals with clear insights about their genetic health.

Personalized Health Risk Awareness

Understanding your genetic risk for conditions like cancer allows for better preparedness and early detection through targeted screening.

Avoid Unnecessary Procedures

A negative test result can help eliminate the need for frequent checkups or invasive tests, reducing medical stress and costs.

Proactive Medical Planning

A positive result enables individuals to take preventive action, including early monitoring, lifestyle changes, or beginning treatment strategies.

Informed Life Decisions

Results from genetic tests can support decisions about family planning, lifestyle changes, or career paths (especially in physically demanding jobs).

Family Risk Awareness

Your results may help inform relatives about shared genetic risks, encouraging them to seek advice or get tested themselves.

Early Intervention for Newborns

Newborn screening helps detect serious genetic conditions early, allowing treatment to begin at the earliest stages of life for better outcomes.

Microbiology Lab

When it comes to health and wellness, patients place their trust in healthcare providers to deliver accurate, timely, and reliable diagnostic results. Microbiology labs play a crucial role in diagnosing a variety of infectious diseases, which is why choosing the right lab is so important. The department provides 24/7 world-class diagnostic services for infectious disease management. It processes 800-1000 investigations daily, with timely reporting of critical results to clinicians. Here's why patients should turn to DMC & H Microbiology Lab:

  • Expertise and Accuracy in Diagnostics: The Dept. of Microbiology has a team of experienced microbiologists and well-trained technical staff, ensuring tests are performed with precision for accurate diagnosis and treatment.
  • State-of-the-Art Technology: Equipped with advanced lab systems including real-time PCR diagnostics, the lab offers reliable, fast, and up-to-date results using cutting-edge technology.
  • Convenience and Accessibility: Multiple collection centers, extended hours, and home sample collection options make the lab easily accessible for patients.
  • Quality & Accreditation: The department holds ISO 9001:2015 certification and NABL accreditation for its Molecular Diagnostic Facility, ensuring top-tier quality and participation in QA programs.
  • Results within Turn-Around Time (TAT): The lab delivers timely and accurate results within the committed TAT, supporting faster treatment initiation.
  • Reports can be assessed through DMCH patient app linked to MRD number/ through the message received at the time of sample collection/ manual reports from the collection center.
  • Confidentiality: The lab maintains strict confidentiality protocols and ethical practices to protect personal data and test results.
  • Comprehensive Range of Tests: The department provides a wide spectrum of microbiological tests through specialized sections:
    • Molecular Testing (TAT: 24–48 hrs): Includes detection of infections such as Tuberculosis, Hepatitis B & C, COVID-19, Influenza, RSV, Clostridium difficile, HPV, and HIV using advanced PCR techniques including multiplex and True-NAT systems.
    • Culture & Sensitivity Testing (TAT: 2–6 days): Identification of bacteria and yeast using systems like BacT/Alert, BACTEC 9240, and Vitek 2. Also includes susceptibility testing for molds and resistant strains.
    • Serology & Immunology (TAT: 24–48 hrs): Testing includes Hepatitis markers, HIV, TORCH profile, Dengue, Chikungunya, fungal biomarkers, and sepsis/hypersensitivity markers like Procalcitonin and Total IgE.
    • Microscopy (TAT: same day): High-precision staining for bacterial, fungal, and parasitic infections using Gram’s, ZN, Auramine, and India Ink methods.
    • Free testing facility for diagnosis & management under national programs for tuberculosis and HIV is available at DOT center / ICTC at DMC&H for walk in patients.
